About the Comic

For those of you who don’t get out much, Stickcat has a rich and interesting history. Every single bullet in the timeline of events is documented in excruciating detail for you to enjoy. Pay attention, there will be an exam.

(2001 - 2002) The Early Years

Stickcat’s origin story is not filled with glamour and glitz like your other web comics. It had humble beginnings in my high school sophomore English class. It all started when a friend of mine had not studied for his midterm exam. The exam consisted of several essay questions about books we had read throughout the semester. He was doomed to fail right? Not exactly. Instead of being reasonable person by either leaving the aforementioned questions blank or making up a plausible answer, he was compelled by a mysterious higher power to draw stick figure cats in response to every question posed.

The teacher apparently enthralled by the mystery of the cat, gave this friend an A for the exam (which was later reversed after she was fired for incompetence). The damage was done however, I was so entranced by the raw power of this stick figure feline that I was doomed to draw him for the rest of my life.  Below you will find a recreation of the first Stickcat comic in my Geometry class immediately following English.

The plot was simple, the guy is trying to kill the cat. He doesn’t need a reason why, he’s a freaking cat. There was a Stickdog and the Sun from today’s comic even made an appearance! Unfortunately, comics made during this era were mostly long and illegible. I have a very large number of them under lock and key as they will no doubt become collector’s items. I will update this page once I regain access to a scanner.

(2003 - 2005) On Hiatus

After I no longer had access to my target audience at High School (idiots), I was forced to take my comics online.  Here are some of the terrifying results. About twenty comics or so exist and a majority of them were made on the PC using a sprite art custom designed to my likeness.

(2006 - 2007) UCONN Daily Campus

What started as a harmless response to a job posting for a comic artist, ended up evolving into a 2 year experiment into seeing how little effort I had to put in to earn my 5 dollars. The last semester they never paid me, can you guess why?  The sprite art makes an appearance for the majority of the strip. Fridays were reserved for the extra special “hand-drawn” comics where the Sun and the moon became regular characters. Here are some of my favorites from the 300+ strips that were produced. That’s right boys and girls, we almost had enough to create a daily tear off calendar!

What can I say? The Sun is a jerk.

Nobody should like Tootsie Rolls

Probably my favorite comic with the Sun. Look at those eyes!

Fritz helped me my last semester. My sick ideas finally started coming to fruition.

To this day you can’t mention the word “Stickcat” on campus without getting the most poignant anger you’ve ever experienced in response. Like some unconscious reflex from the depths of evolution within our reptilian brains, the most subdued student will erupt into an irritable fit upon seeing even part of the strip.

Final Thoughts

There you have it! You now know way too much about this stick figure cat.  Do not abuse the great power that has just been bestowed upon you, but rather, go forth and spread your new found knowledge to the disadvantaged and ugly! Your leader has spoken.
